River Glen Haven
It is a decision
that most of us do not want to make – a loved one needs to go to a
Nursing Home due to illness or the inability
to live on their own. My family and I had to
make this decision and we chose River Glen Haven
to be Mom’s home.
From the moment you walk through the door and
meet Denise, the Office Manager, you get that
feeling that people in this Nursing Home care
a great deal about the residents. You encounter
others who also care from Nancy, the Administrator,
to Angie, the Director of Care and Lori, the
Assistant Director of Care. They make sure that
you are comfortable in your decision and assure
you that your loved one will be well taken care
of. The one thing that helped with our decision
is that their doors are always open, and you
are always welcome.
It didn’t
take long to meet the RNs, the RPNs and
the PSWs on staff. They all welcomed
my Mom and made her feel comfortable in
her new surroundings. You have to remember that
this
is a big change for someone who has recently
lost a spouse and now has to leave her
own home for a completely different life style.
As time passes you meet the staff from maintenance,
laundry, kitchen, housekeeping, physio and activities.
They also make you feel comfortable and you know
that they care about you, your family and especially
the residents at River Glen Haven.
River Glen
Haven is Mom’s home and it
is also my second home as I visit her everyday
and talk to the staff about how she is
doing and they are always kind and courteous
with me.
I am also impressed that when a concern
arises, as it does in most organizations,
that the staff
go out of their way to ensure that a timely
response is given to you and you are
assured that your
concerns are taken seriously.
Thanks River Glen Haven for making my Mom, my
family and I feel that we made the right choice
and that we are always welcome. There are good
days and not so good days for all the residents,
but I know that the staff will always be there
for Mom and put a smile on her face when I am
not there.
Thanks again River Glen
Haven – you have
put my mind at ease knowing that Mom is
so well taken care of each and every
day.
Sincerely,
W.

Accolades to River Glen Haven,
My mother was admitted to the hospital early
in July with several serious conditions and after
2 weeks, went to River Glen Haven Nursing Home
as her crisis placement. Our whole family has
been delighted with the excellent care that she
has been receiving since then from the staff
at River Glen Haven. They keep her clean and
neat, are quick to come to her assistance when
she rings her buzzer for help, and accept suggestions
as to small improvements that can be made. She
feels that the staff members are her friends,
and enjoys chatting and joking with them. She
has been receiving frequent physiotherapy treatments
and has show a marked improvement in
many areas since taking up residence there. For
our convenience, we had planned to move her to
another nursing home when one became available
but have since decided that she is receiving
such excellent care that this is the best place
for her She will be staying!

I have been asked to comment on the care provided to my mother who is a
resident at River Glen, and it is with pleasure that I do this. Mom has been
a
resident for the past 3 ½ years. Mom was admitted suffering from Alzheimer’s
and her care has been wonderful.
Meals are served 3 times a day, plus snacks
in between. Prior to Mom’s admission to
River Glen, one of the concerns I had with my
Mom was that she was not eating proper meals
at home and only snacking on chocolate bars and
chips. Since she has been at River Glen her weight
has increased and she is a healthier person today.
The staff have worked with me by offering Mom
food that she likes to eat, and since she was
overwhelmed by the amount of food on her plate,
they provided a smaller plate for her. This has
met with approval from both my mother and me.
Mom’s room is a semi private room and
River Glen went out of their way to ensure my
Mom had a suitable roommate. Her roommate, M.,
has become my mother’s friend and they
are inseparable. The room is kept very clean
and linens are changed on a regular basis. Mom’s
laundry is done by the facility and always returned
to her promptly and in a clean and pressed condition
I cannot compliment the staff enough. When I
have a question about Mom’s care, I address
it with the staff and it is dealt with promptly.
The staff are always happy and this in turn makes
the residents in a happy frame of mind. The staff
have had to deal with a lot of issues, both with
my mother and other residents and they have done
so in a professional manner. Last winter there
was a flu virus in the building and the staff
dealt with it to my satisfaction. Patient care
is utmost in the care of the residents.
Activities are programmed on a regular and daily
basis. A schedule is printed and resident’s
family are welcome to take them home. I do this
and arrange my visits so as not to coincide with
any activity my Mom would be joining. The activities
staff have arranged outings, bingo games, singalongs
and in general they have catered to the wants
of the residents in an efficient manner. Mom
looks forward to the outings and these are always
supervised by staff and volunteers, so I have
no worry about mom’s safety while in the
community.
I thank you for the care given to Mom.

Resident Testamonials
I’ve lived at River Glen for about 5 years.
My husband and I owned a farm in Baldwin. When
my doctor felt things had become too much for
me at home, he arranged for me to come here.
I can’t find fault with any of the staff.
The girls are all wonderful. They treat me well
and take good care of me. Everyone is cheerful
and friendly, the food is good and they keep
the place very clean. I’ve always said
I’ve found a home away from home.

I’ve lived here
about one year. The care is very good
and the staff is wonderful. My daughter
thinks so, too. I still miss my husband.
When he passed away, the staff were so good to
me.
They always show concern for me and interest
in me as a person. The Home is absolutely
clean, the floors shine, and I like the food.
I love
the cats. They come right over and have
such personality.

I’m happy here. Nurses are wonderful. They
have hearts of gold. They go out of their way
for us. I couldn’t be a nurse - they
have so much to contend with us. I can be
a bit of
a handful at times but the mother in them
comes out and they joke you out of it. The
dietary
staff are real characters, too. I like the
activities, especially trivial pursuit, the
music, bingo
and the outings. We went to the farm and
the pioneer village and have meals out. I
also like
to sit on the front patio under the awning
and take my knitting with me.

Staff Testimonials
I’ve worked here for almost 11 years. The
staff are dedicated and committed to our residents
at River Glen Haven. You can see how caring and
compassionate they truly are to each individual
resident’s needs.” I’m really
proud to be a member of the River Glen team.
The Public Trustee told me that they specifically
choose our home for senior who have no family.
They know that the staff here will take them
under their wing. You don’t get that in
most homes. It’s truly a ”Home away
from Home”.

River Glen is a great
place to work. The caring and compassionate
staff at River Glen are second
to none. Their smiling faces greet you every
morning and are your last sight at night. During
the day, Activation staff go to great lengths
to fill resident’s days with enjoyable
activities and our skilled cooks offer a wide
assortment of delicious and nutritious meals.
All in all, the relaxed atmosphere and homey
comforts make River Glen Haven an enjoyable and
welcoming place.

RPN
I’ve been an RN at River Glen for over
16 years and I think our strongest attribute
is our staff. They’re knowledgeable, well-informed,
friendly and considerate and go above and beyond
when it comes to meeting resident needs. They
recognize the residents as individuals. This
is an opportunity to meet people from so many
walks of life. The residents all had active lives
before coming to live here and they share their
experiences with us. We have shared tears and
joys with our residents and their families. That’s
what we’re here for and we never loose
sight of this. A building is just bricks and
mortar – it’s the people who make
the difference.

I love my job and I love working with the residents.
Even on a frustrating day, I still like being
here. The staff are great with the residents
and treat them with the utmost respect care.

Dietary Aid
I’ve worked here for six years, first
in food services and then in activation. The
staff really care and work hard to give the residents
everything they need. The families say our staff
have so much kindness in them and are so pleased
with how staff interact with the residents. Families
have told me that our staffs’ names are
household names in their homes.

Activation Dept.
I’ve been here six years and love it.
I’m part time so I float from floor to
floor and I enjoy the different personalities.
I like the variety, no two days are the same.
I can’t say enough about the staff. They’re
hardworking and caring. One of the dietary staff
even makes clothes for residents who have no
family. Staff give a lot of themselves to all
the residents but they give that little bit of
extra attention to the ones with no visitors
so they don’t feel lonely or left out.

PSW
I think the residents
get excellent care. I’d
have no worries about admitting one of my family
members here. As a nursing home, we’ve
made great strides to make the place less of
an institution and more of a Home. The place
is clean. We’ve made a lot of changes and
improvements – new flooring, painting,
activities. Dietary strives to prepare meals
that the residents are used to and would have
made for themselves at home. Many residents owned
pets before and we now have three cats living
here and visiting puppies come in.
